White Horse Stallion Ranch Wedding in Tucson, Arizona

Victoria & Ryan

Tucson, Arizona is a lovely city to get married in, which is why I keep finding myself there. There’s Saguaro National Park, world-class dining, and plenty of local character.

For Victoria and Ryan’s wedding day, I did something a little different. Rather than visiting the national park, this couple got married at White Horse Stallion Ranch.

Head Over Hooves for White Horse Stallion Ranch

I’ve photographed at White Horse Stallion Ranch early in my career. It was part of a styled shoot, where models posed and I could build my portfolio. This is actually how Victoria and Ryan found me. They were looking for inspiration for their wedding day when they came across my photos at this stunning location.

Interestingly enough, the ranch doesn’t host that many weddings. When I asked Victoria and Ryan why they chose this location, the couple shared that the groom's family has been coming to the ranch for summer vacations for years. There's even a memorial plaque for the groom's grandparents in the main building.

Yes, Ryan’s family had been such mainstays, that the ranch employees were family friends. Even cooler, some of the staff were wedding guests!

A Tucson Ranch Wedding All Their Own

The day of the wedding was warm, which checks for a September in Arizona. But hey—we’ll take the warm days cause it means warm nights as well. Those temperatures are an absolute delight for a wedding reception.

Since this venue is a ranch, there were plenty of rooms for their guests. They had booked almost all the rooms that weekend!

I met with the bride and groom while they were getting ready. Each one, separately bombilating with energy ahead of the big moment. So—first things first—we began with a very sentimental first look.

I adore opportunities like these. It lets the couple take a quiet moment to see each other through tears, laughter, or silent awe. There’s lots of nerves and anxiety before the ceremony, and this is a great way to cool down and have that moment together.

Victoria and Ryan certainly wanted to soak in that peaceful moment. So, we took some time away from the guests to pop a bottle of champagne, walk the cactus garden, and interact with the horses.

Up next was the wedding ceremony. The groom’s family is Jewish, so they built a chuppah specifically for this wedding. The bride is Latina, so they were sure to mix elements of both cultures into this lively wedding day.

Ryan’s sister led a tearful ceremony, and everyone was emotionally moved by the vows. The whole ritual ended with the traditional breaking of the glass, cheers of joy, and—of course—the big kiss. We love to see it!

Immediately after the ceremony, the couple went off to have a quick moment alone. Yes, even from me. But of course, I had to take the chance to shoot some photos from far enough away that we couldn’t see each other. What do you think—was it worth it?

We jumped straight from there to couple’s portraits, followed by family photos, and cocktail hour. It was a whirlwind of fun moments with their guests. There was plenty of hugging, laughing, and joking—exactly how a wedding should feel.

The reception was held right at the ranch venue, a space with beautiful architecture and plenty of space for dancing. The couple loves music, and the Spanish-style jams kept everyone on their feet through the warm evening.

The reception had everything, from speeches and first dances to cupcakes and a churro truck. It was such a fun event with some truly amazing music!

Meet Your Tucson Wedding Photographer

I'm Diana Lustig, a California-born adventurer with a camera for a hand and an inborn love for the outdoors. I'm a professional photographer of 15 years and counting. My husband and I met in Arizona, where we spent 4 years hiking in Sedona, Phoenix, and Tucson.

How did I get into wedding and elopement photography? In 2019, I hired adventure photographers for my own wedding and they showed me there’s a different, more personal way to get married. It was such a special day, I want to bring it to so many more couples who believe in getting married their own way.
