Orange County Wedding: Huntington Dog Beach
Sometimes our four-legged friends are more than just a pet—they are a member of the family. That’s one of the first things Anyllah and Sam expressed to me when discussing their wedding day plans. So—always eager to please my couples—we headed to Huntington Dog Beach in Orange County for their ceremony.
Getting Ready With Friends and Family
As you might already know, my husband (Isiah) and I often work weddings and elopements together. He’s the officiant for wedding ceremonies, and I am the wedding photographer. While that’s not always the case, it’s a lot of fun to be coworkers.
So, the two of us arrived at Anyllah and Sam’s rental house in Huntington Beach, CA. The sun was hot—but that’s kind of what you want for a beach wedding! Anyllah was getting her hair and makeup done as friends and family told stories. Everyone was in a good mood, with just the right amount of nervous energy that’s typically present on a wedding day.
I captured some detail shots with the videographer and even got a sneak peek of Anyllah’s wedding dress—making sure that Sam didn’t see it until the big moment.
Wedding Ceremony on the Huntington Dog Beach
Everyone got packed up and headed to Huntington Dog Beach. I think we were all a little nervous about parking. But thankfully, there was no issue. That’s one of the benefits of scouting parking lots the week before and getting married on a weekday.
Isiah and I ran ahead of the couple and their guests, just to make sure our ceremony spot was good to go. Anyllah and Sam hired Stories and Tablescapes to set up a wedding arch and picnic area—which really made the area come alive. I love working with local vendors, especially ones I’ve worked with in the past.
Finally, it was time for the ceremony. The guests came together to watch the festivities, braving the windy day we had on the beach. Their adorable goldendoodle stood patiently to the side. Sam stood at the arch, awaiting his bride, who was presented by her grandpa. The ceremony started with a reading of “The Union” by Robert Fulghum, followed by a few details about the couple’s history, and what brought them here today.
The wind kicked up, and the couple held their vow books tightly. Anyllah made a few references to romantasy (which made me smile) and Sam shared all the things he loves about Anyllah. It was a tearful and touching moment.
After the ceremony, the guests dispersed—leaving Anyllah and Sam to enjoy a private moment together—complete with cake and champagne. The videographer Limsdottir and I made sure to give them some space, capturing candid moments here and there.
Huntington Beach Wedding Reception
Just because the ceremony was wrapped, doesn’t mean the fun was done. Anyllah and Sam joined their wedding guests at her grandfather’s apartment complex for their reception. They rented out an area all their own, which was decorated to taste. Lovely!
There, our couple and their guest had more cake (we love to see it), Mexican food, toasts, and speeches. There were plenty of tears, hugging, and lots of laughter. At some point, we even snuck away to capture these two as the sun was setting, making for a quick getaway while still giving them plenty of time with friends and family.

Orange County is crowded! Yes, I’m old enough to say I remember when people didn’t know where Huntington Beach was. But now, it’s popular! And for good reason. Get married on a weekday or in the off-season to avoid crowds.
June Gloom is a thing. Getting married in the early summer? Expect gloom! That might sound weird, but Southern California is known for its marine layer in the early summer.
