California Wedding Locations Based on Zodiac Signs
When you spend as much time outdoors as we do, you get intimately familiar with nature in her many aspects. From the different ecologies of place to the changing of the seasons, the glorious turning of the heavens to the tilting of the sun throughout the year…
And it’s not just the physical experiences of the great outdoors. It’s also the stories and myths that come from the environments in which we find ourselves.
Take astrology, for instance. My husband and I spend a lot of time under the stars. And it’s a lot of fun to try to name the constellations, stars, and planets. This would be incredibly tough if not for the easy-to-remember astrological symbols and stories.
While Isiah is good at tracking the stars, I am much better at knowing national parks and stuff like that. So, we thought it would be fun to combine our skills to come up with twelve California wedding locations based on the zodiac signs.
Hopefully, reading through this list inspires you to consider your wedding location—whether it’s based on your zodiac sign or not!
Aries: Lassen Volcanic National Park
Aries the Ram charges headfirst into situations. Assertive, outgoing, and audacious, this fire sign exemplifies force and fire. Obviously, we had to choose a California wedding location with a history of volcanic activity.
Lassen Volcanic National Park is located about an hour outside of Redding, California, and is home to all four volcano types (shield, plug dome, cinder cone, and composite). Couples that select Lassen for their wedding day are often attracted to the park’s titanic peaks, fantastic lava beds, stunning lakes, and geological history.
If you or your partner is an Aries, you might already be jumping at the opportunity to elope in Lassen National Park.
Taurus: Idyllwild, California
Taurus is an earth sign associated with comfort, security, hard work, and creature comforts. Inspired by that worldly vibe, we decided it fit well with an Idyllwild wedding day.
Idyllwild offers something special in Southern California: rich forests. SoCal is well known for its beaches and deserts, so this green wooded environment is a hidden gem. Couples that get married in Idyllwild can take advantage of cabins or bed & breakfasts, scenic trails and lakeside views, mountaintop ceremonies, or endearing venues.
The unincorporated town is small, which makes it easy to get around. It’s so relaxing and captivating that a Taurus would cherish their wedding memories here.
Gemini: Mammoth Lakes, California
Gemini is all about duality. So we had to choose a place that felt like it had the “best of both worlds,” so to speak. Gemini is also endlessly curious, seeking out new experiences and yearning for novelty.
Well, there’s no better spot for novelty and mix-n-match experiences than getting married in Mammoth Lakes, California.
Mammoth offers a little bit of everything. Bougie eateries and lodging options? Check. Lots of rugged places to hike, bike, climb, swim, ski, and explore? Of course. Gorgeous public lands for your “I dos”? You betcha!
Mammoth Lakes is an ideal wedding spot for couples who want to treat their adventurous side as well as treat themselves to life’s comforts.
Cancer: Lake Tahoe
Cancer is a water sign and is associated with changing emotions, home life, passivity, habits, and nurturing environments. Which got us thinking about Lake Tahoe.
Lake Tahoe is a lovely spot for weddings and elopements. If you’ve ever vacationed here, you know that everything feels so homey, even when you’re away from home. The lake itself is an obvious attraction. The ice-cold water is super refreshing in the summer, while the winter months are great for that snowy wonderland feel.
Considering a Lake Tahoe wedding or elopement? You can start the day at a cozy Airbnb, before a morning wedding overlooking the lake. Then jump into town for lunch, followed by some outdoor activities. Wrapping the day up with some sunset or nighttime photos. How perfect!
Leo: Yosemite National Park
Leo is creative, dramatic, assertive, and confident. It’s the lion of the zodiac, after all. So it’s going to have a boldness that is totally deserved. When we thought about it, Yosemite came roaring to mind.
As the most popular national park in California, a Yosemite wedding or elopement is highly desirable. Dazzling waterfalls, grand meadows, ancient sequoias—it’s no wonder why couples proudly tie the knot in this beautiful national park.
If you yearn for natural majesty on your wedding day, then embrace that Leo energy and get married among the granite cliffs and towering trees.
Virgo: San Francisco Bay Area
Virgo is an earth sign related to knowledge, organization, and curiosity. It is detail-oriented and does its best to make the most out of every opportunity. To us, that sounded a lot like eloping in the San Francisco Bay Area.
SF represents tech, hippies, Queen Anne-style houses, foggy summers, sociable parks, and iconic landmarks. Couples who get married in San Francisco might choose Muir Woods or City Hall—or maybe sharing your vows in Golden Gate Park or the Presidio is more your vibe.
If you’re the Virgo type, you can work with your elopement photographer to work out the details to hit all the hotspots that pique your interests. That’s the fun part about San Francisco! There’s so much to take advantage of in 7x7 city if you know where to look.
Libra: Santa Barbara, California
Libra is an air sign ruled by Venus, so it has big look-at-me energy. Yes, Libra is all about harmony and balance—but it never fails to treat itself to the finer things in life. That’s why we chose Santa Barbara, California, for this zodiac sign.
Couples who elope in Santa Barbara benefit from the beach, ocean sunsets, and a cuter-than-cute downtown area. There are tons of great restaurants and hotels for you and your guests. Not to mention that the Santa Barbara Courthouse is a gorgeous place to get married.
So, if the sunny shores, nightlife, and more call to you, this might be the prime spot for your wedding day.
Scorpio: Mount Shasta
Scorpio is all about transformative experiences. Strong-willed and mysterious, Scorpio plays by its own rules. If you’ve ever been to Mount Shasta, you know that it has a similar vibe.
Mount Shasta and the surrounding area are known for their mixture of rough-and-tumble outdoor activities and spiritually focused culture. The enormous stratovolcanic mountain captures everyone’s imagination in its own way. For climbers and hikers, it’s an invitation for exploration. For the seekers and soul-searchers, it's a mystical and mythic natural monument.
Looking to get married at Mount Shasta or Shasta–Trinity National Forest? There are miles and miles of natural wonder in all directions. Plus, picturesque towns for your lodging, dining, and shopping desires.
Sagittarius: Death Valley National Park
Sagittarius is all about freedom, adventure, and a little bit of mischief. That’s why we picked Death Valley for this fire sign.
Death Valley wedding couples choose this national park for a myriad of reasons. Some couples are enamored by the open road or the multicolored hues of the desert vistas, while others crave the park for its dark skies and otherworldly ambiance. Still, others simply want a warm place to have an outdoor ceremony during the winter months.
No matter what your reason is, Death Valley is a unique, rugged, and romantic place to say “I do,” —which fits Sagittarius perfectly.
Capricorn: Redwoods National Park
Capricorn, the sea-goat, is one of the more unique astrological symbols. Associated with practicality, reliability, and achievement, Capricorn picks up all the complicated (and sometimes surprising) pieces and puts them together in a way that works. So we thought—Redwoods National Park.
Now, to understand why we chose Redwoods NP, you need a little bit of history. To prevent the logging industry from decimating the redwood forests of Northern California, a patchwork of protected lands was created by both the state and national governments. And that’s perfectly Capricorn!
Getting married in the redwoods is an ethereal experience. The towering forests make you feel so small, yet also timeless. The air is rich with earthy aromatics. Sometimes a mist fills the area, making everything feel like a fairytale. If that’s how you picture your wedding day, then follow that impulse to exchange rings under the canopy of redwoods.
Aquarius: Joshua Tree National Park
Aquarius likes to do things its own way. This air sign is a little bit spiritual, usually energetic, and always ready for the next adventure. That’s what makes Joshua Tree National Park the wedding and elopement hotspot for Aquarius types.
Joshua Tree weddings are delightfully graced by sweeping desert landscapes, wide open skies, and (of course) those crooked cacti that give the park its name. JT draws in the wonderfully weird people—you know, the artists, the dreamers, and the intrepid travelers looking for that next thrill.
Climbing, stargazing, kissing your special someone underneath the curvy arms of a Joshua Tree. Yes! That’s exactly the Aquarian vibe your wedding day needs.
Pisces: Marin & Sonoma Counties
Pisces is the fish of the zodiac. Likeable albeit a bit moody, you don’t truly get to know Pisces until you get into the depths. In our thinking, we wanted to choose a place that was close to the water with moody weather and tons of hidden gems. So, we landed on Marin and Sonoma Counties.
Located just north of the SF Bay Area, Marin and Sonoma Counties offer stunning landscapes for your wedding day: Acre after acre of vineyards, cliffside beaches where the fog creeps in, buildings and homes with plenty of local charm. This area is full of subtle beauty and peaceful vistas.
Couples who choose to get married in Marin and Sonoma Counties can read their vows overlooking the ocean, then sip on locally sourced wine. Doesn’t that just sound lovely?
